My lucky day?

I found this dollar while on my morning walk

Bug fun

You have to look closely but Poe is tormenting this large buzzing insect. I think it went on for about an hour.

Flower Urn

There are a number of these large cement(?) urns in the south central portion of campus that were very nicely planted with flowers.

Bell tower

It is amazing what people will donate money to the University for. This is the beginning of construction for a carillon or bell tower. Just what we needed.

Waiting, waiting and waiting

Look at all the green tomatoes on this plant. It sure would be nice to have some red ones.

Four Bucks

You need to look closely but there are four buck deer running away from me in this picture. They all had big racks in velvet.

What a Question

This is the Katherine Dunham Dynamic Museum in East St. Louis. I am on the Board of Directors for the Center and stopped by the other day while there. Our Director was conducting a youth tour and asked me to introduce myself which I did. No problem so far. Then one of the students asked me "if my family ever owned her family?" It appears we both have the same family name and presumably her enslaved ancestors had adopted it years ago during the Emancipation. To say the least I was very unprepared for that question and after a moment or two I recovered and was able to respond. Fortunately my brother had done considerable genelogocal research on our Wicks lineage and we know that our direct decendants did not come to America until after the Civil War, and thus our family could never have owned hers. But what if we had?

Motorcycle Contraption

Bruce Vetter is a friend who lives in Homer and is the consummate inventor. I saw this "thing" in front of his shop the other day but have yet to get the complete story on what it actually is supposed to be or do.

Our Home Looking Good

With all the rain and good growing conditions the flowers and plants in our yard are doing great this summer.

Corn Inflation

This was at the farmer's market where there was a trailer full of sweet corn. The going price this year is 50 cents per ear. How much do you think that trailer full is worth to the farmer assuming they sold out?

First Sweet Corn

Fortunately there bees were more interested in pollen than me.

Need a boat?

I had to laugh when I saw this old boat in someone's yard.

Polish Palace

Throughout the countryside there are these magnificant old estates that probably go back to fudal times. Anyway, some like this one have been restored and you can rent rooms and dine in a fancy restaurant. This particular evening there was a wedding reception going on.
