The first 2 pictures are views from the window of the office I was borrowing at the Institute of Vulcanology. The Inst. is shown below along with a typical Soviet era apartment building.

This was an ice cave I came across that was at the base of the volcanoes.

The first pictures are looking down the valley toward Petropavlovsk from the camp site. The others are the camp structures.

Kamchatka 1. Going to the Volcanoes

This is the vehicle and the "road" to the camp at the foot of the Koryaksky and Avacha volcanoes. These vehicles are known as land rovers by the locals and I believe they are surplus from the Russian Army. The trip off the paved road to the camp took an hour.
